Students and young professionals of all nationalities, ages, levels, and musical disciplines are invited to apply. Registration deadline: Sunday, February 2, , p. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed the spirit of the competition. We recognize the fact that all competitors and their instructors have worked very hard devoted several months of practicing to prepare for their upcoming performances at the International Music Festival and Competition.

Current situation The unprecedented but necessary province-wide measures for a preventive attempt to slow down the imminent spread of the Covid have encouraged many organizations to resource to modern technology and look for alternative ways to communicate and connect with their communities. Solution Guided by multiple discussions and consultations with the Ontario Music Festivals Association and similar bodies across Canada and worldwide, we are excited to be able to provide a viable alternative solution and migrate the IMFC to an online participation model.

Guidelines for video recordings Professional recordings are not required for the competition but good audio and visual quality is very important. The quality on most smartphones is adequate and would allow the video recording to take place at home, at another location or in a studio.

The video recording has to: — show the face or facial profile, the hands and the instrument in the case of instrumental performance of the competitor; — be of a single take, without any editing or splicing; — have a consistent camera angle throughout the performance; — use live piano accompaniment if required.

For classes that require two etudes, each piece should be recorded separately. Competitors are required to wear formal attire. One of our partners, the International Music Academy, offers as a complimentary service to IMFC competitors, their state-of-the-art recording studio located in the Town of Whitchurch—Stouffville, Ontario. The studio can be reserved 7 days a week, from 9 a.

Guidelines for music sheets While watching the recorded performance, jurors will be referring to the music sheet. Deadline E-mails must be sent before 5 p. Identity verification To facilitate identity verification, e-mails must be sent from the same address that competitors used for submitting their registration to the IMFC.

Face recognition The face of the competitor that appear in each video recording will be compared with the photograph submitted by the same competitor with their registration. Review Jurors will review the recorded performances, write comments and provide a mark on Adjudication Form, which will be given to the competitors at the IMFC Award Ceremony, together with any medals, certificates, special prizes and scholarships that they may have won. Masterclasses All master classes will take place during the months of April and May at a day, time and place confirmed directly with each competitor.

The masterclasses will be private without public access. We will re-evaluate in mid-April and will make appropriate decision in accordance with the latest information we will have at that time. All competitors will be promptly notified via email no later than April 20, Best practices Follow these best practices to help limit the exposure and further spread of any respiratory illnesses: — Wash your hands often, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds — If soap and water is unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer — Avoid close contact with people who are sick — Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze — Avoid handshakes and hugs — Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands — Stay home if you are sick and seek medical attention if needed — Avoid public events and places where there may be a large number of people in attendance Additional information.
